Criterion B: Design

I chose to do computer programming because I’m interested in technology, and it would be something that would interest me for a long time. I have made websites and edited myspaces, and etc. I want to create useful programs, and become famous. To be a computer programmer, you have to have a lot of requirements. You need to be good at math, know algebra, geometry, calculus, and know hot to use them. Have to have education, training in the technology field, and computer skills. And you have to know computers inside and out.
So this unit, was interesting, and educational, because I learned that I am a ENTJ, and I realized that me and my dad are very alike. We are problem solvers, practical thinkers, and we always want things our way. I learned a lot of things.
Criterion A: Investigation
We had to answer a test, with about 70 questions on it, and it would show our personality type. I found out that mine, Uudee’s and Evgenii’s were all ENTJ. We are similar to Steve Jobs, Bill gates, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, Napoleon Bonaparte, Jim Carrey, and a lot more.

Criterion B: Design
I chose to computer programming, because that’s the thing I’m most closest to. Then we wrote our career plan, which is the necessary job requirements, and your qualifications.
Career goal:

Computer Programmer - Convert project specifications and statements of problems and procedures to detailed logical flow charts for coding into computer language. Develop and write computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information. May program web sites.

Requirements:

• Education - Most of these occupations require a four-year bachelor's degree, but some do not.
• Training - Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
• Experience - A considerable amount of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.
• Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
• English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
• Computers and Electronics - Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Current skills and interests:

• Been always interested in technology, and wish for it to be a big part of my life in the future
• Have unlocked, jailbroken, and modded an iPhone, and iPod Touch before
• Have changed default system icons, modded, and added new features to a Mac
• Often help other people with problems with whatever tech they have, such as phones, computers, and cameras
• I constantly teach people new tips and tricks with their tech, just because I like to share these things

Plan to reach career goal:

• Continue to be actively using, learning, helping, and teaching people with their technology
• Learn to program
• Pursue this career for as long as I can, until I find a stable, well-paying computer programming position
• Go to a good college, and choose computer programming as one of my majors
• Try my best!

Criterion C: Create
We had to take our career plan, and make a university entrance video. We had to state my qualifications, why you should choose me, and other stuff. I filmed it at home, edited on iMovie, and published it in HD. I would say I didn’t do a good job on the video, because I was so fed up with filming myself, I would have rather done something without me in it.

Criterion D: Evaluate
It was interesting, annoying at times, but ok. Better than the Modern Shakespeare for sure. I could have done better, but oh well. I will always know now that I am an ENTJ, and I will recognize my characteristics when I do them. Made me aware of other peoples personalities
too.

Shakespeare Criterion A: Investigation

Shakespeare has been considered to be one of the greatest writers to ever live. However, most of his plays were written in old English, making them quite difficult to understand. As we had just finished reading the play, “Much Ado About Nothing” he have a fair understanding of the play, mostly because our teacher, Mr. Thompson, explains the events going on in our language, so we can understand it. What about the not-so-good-at-english people? Can they understand it? Probably not. This is the purpose of this new unit. We have to make a modern day, news report about the scandalous things going on in the play, in the format of a celebrity gossip, news, and other stories. The characters in the play being the celebrities of course. Today, during English class, we almost finished watching the movie of the play, and I found out that seeing the characters actually act, and perform the characters in the play, it is much easier to understand. So even making the words modern would make it even simpler. We have to make it so anyone, even a person who has never heard of Shakespeare, understands the events happening in this play.

The format of the news report I chose is to do animation, utilizing toys and materials to make a little cartoon, or stop-motion movie, in the style of Robot Chicken, which takes modern events and depicts it into a cartoon. Now Robot Chicken is basically meant for humor, but I will also be adding maybe drama. I watched an episode of the show, and got the basic style of it, which would be short random little skits, transitioned through like TV static.

Good news is that I already have a program for stop motion, called Framebyframe, and it allows me to take a picture of an object, move it a bit, take another picture, and so on and so forth, until I have a moving picture, resulting in a movie. I will have to find the correct dolls, and dress them accordingly to the play, and that will be quite difficult. I will also probably make a set, with little props and realistic materials that will be used in the cartoon. The program used the built in webcam on my computer, so I have to connect a external camera, get a working tripod, and make sure nobody touches it. I think this will be a long and hard process, but it will be fun working with tech like this. I am always interested in working with things I’m interested in.

My Personality Type: ENTJ Investigation

My personality type is ENTJ, for Extraversion, iNtuition, Thinking, Judgment.

"I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?"

We focus on doing things the right way, the most efficient, the most organized way of doing things. We are superior leaders; we are both realistic and visionary in long-term plans. We are very independent in our decision-making, think about things in a very logical, and rational way. We are good in things such as business, things that require system analysis, original thinking, and economically savvy mind. We are problem solvers. We are confident in our own abilities, and when dealing with others we are outgoing, fair-minded and unaffected by criticism. This can sometimes make us seem arrogant, insensitive, controlling, intimidating and hasty. We love to learn new things, which makes us intelligent problem solvers. We always want things our way.

Is it True?

Yes! This got it spot on for me, I like to think of everything as it was made, like if I see a picture that has been edited, I see in my mind how it was edited, and suddenly it’s not so cool anymore. My dad is a CEO, one of the recommended careers for ENTJ’s, so it is likely that I will take over the business. When were in a group of friends, I’m usually the director, the one that keeps everything organized and planned. You can ask some people, they will tell you its true.

Modern Shakespeare Criterion E: Evaluation

Our unit was Modern Shakespeare, and our plan was to take our scripts we wrote in English class, and produce a video with us acting a play that we chose was best. We were separated into groups of shows that we were doing, and we had to chose one out of a group, act it, film it, and put it together with the rest of the acts, and that would be it. Then, it became we choose the best script out of the class by posting it on our blogs, and voting for the one you thought was best, act it, film it, and it would be done.

We had some major problems along the way. We needed a lot of equipment, we couldn’t find a proper setting, characters were missing, people weren’t enthusiastic, and it was a total disaster. We decided to go with the one that we thought was best, and we got Tsolmon’s script. It was an Oprah styled show, with a host, and the characters come on stage and talk about a few scandalous things. We chose our roles, memorized our lines to some extent, and began to act it out. We first did a test run on the couches next to the art room, and our filmer, Haram started to work out angles and things.

I was Claudio, I had one line, and I tried to kill Borachio, who was played by Evgenii, on stage. Namuun was Beatrice, the bratty, annoying type, Uudee was Benedick, Reeza was the host named Iris, Rebekah was Hero, my lover, Jill and Catriona was Margaret and Ursula, and the rest I don’t remember.

I felt really frustrated with this unit, especially because we didn’t have a good idea of what was going on and what we were supposed to do the entire time. I think most of us hated this unit, and really wanted it to just go away. Apparently Mrs. Wilson did too! It’s a good thing that we are skipping this unit, because everyone would have gotten a not-so-good-grade on it.

My Script for English. Mine is supposed to be a cartoon

The Absolute Finesse Drollery

The introduction is played, the show starts…

Claudio, Leonato, and Don Pedro are in the garden, gossiping.

Claudio: Have you heard the news?

Don Pedro: No, what is it?

Claudio: I heard from someone that Beatrice loves Benedick! How crazy is that?

All the while, Benedick is listening, so close its obvious, and even holding listening items, making it more obvious. Haha get it?

----------------(TV static transition)---------------------

A grand wedding, for Claudio and Hero, the scene where Claudio publicly humiliates Hero. The couple is standing at the altar, the setting is outside, and they go through their vows.

Friar: Do you, Claudio, come her to marry this young lady?

Claudio: No.

Leonato: To be married to her, not to marry her. That’s your job!

Friar: Oh, right, my bad. Do you, Hero, take Claudio as your lawfully wedded husband?

Hero: I do.

Friar: If anyone has any reason why this couple should not get married, speak now, or be quiet.

Claudio: Aughh, fine! I can’t marry you! Good bye!

Claudio in rage, pushes Hero to the ground. She is sobbing. The camera goes to the building next to the place where they were supposed to be married, and on the top, Don John was watching with binoculars, now he is doing his evil, menacing laugh.

Don John: Mwahahahaha!

---------------(TV static transition)----------------------

Dogberry, with his watchmen and Verges, are accusing Borachio and Conrade. The sexton is there to take the charges. Borachio and Conrade are cuffed, and seated.

First Watchman: That man called the Princes brother a villain!

Borachio: But-

Dogberry: Whoa, man! You shall not speak when not being asked to speak mmkay?

Borachio: Alright, ok.

Sexton: What else did they say?

Second Watchman: They got paid a thousand dollars, from Don John himself, to accuse Hero of cheating on Claudio.

Dogberry: (pointing in the wrong direction) Now that’s a criminal!

Verges: Sir?

Dogberry: (Spins around violently)

Verges: The sweet Hero has been falsely accused!

Dogberry: (Babbling) Huh? Whaddya say? I didn’t quite catch that.

Verges: Nevermind.

-----------------(TV static transition)-----------------------

Beatrice and Benedick, on a balcony, romantic little spot and they are confessing their love for each other.

Benedick: I knew you loved me. I just knew it!

Beatrice: Yeah, right!

Benedick: Oh come on, admit it. You love me more than anything. You cant live without me.

Beatrice: Don’t be so full of yourself. I loved you way before you loved me.

Benedick: I don’t think so. I loved you way before I even met you.

Beatrice: I loved you way before you were even born!

Setting changes to a contest stage, kinda like the setting of those yo-momma battles. People surrounding Benedick and Beatrice, a judge in the middle, and the battle begins.

Benedick: I love you so much, everytime I look at you, my heart skips a beat.

Beatrice: I love you so much, when we’re together, time comes to a stop.

Benedick: Nahh… I love you so much, if you were a margarita, I’d drink you by the bucket.

Crowd: Ohhhh!!!

Beatrice: I love you as much as something that loves something a lot!

Disc Scratches, returns to the original setting

Beatrice: What? What did I say?

-----------------(TV static transition)----------------------

After the fight at the wedding, Claudio is pacing in the hallways, furious. A messenger comes and whispers something into his ear. Claudio dashes off to the wedding place, everyone is gone except for Hero, Beatrice, Margaret, Friar, Benedick, and Leonato. Claudio runs toward them, reaching out, with hope in his eyes.

Claudio: Hero! Hero! I finally understand! It wasn’t you!

Leonato: She’s dead.

Claudio: Ahhh..... dang.

April 19th 2010. Modern Shakespeare Process

Today, we concluded that we should pick the best script out of the group, and do that script in our groups. However, me, Evgenii, and Haram have been put together as sort of the commercial, extras type of thing. Mr. Thompson has to give us our scripts back so we can all read it, and choose the best one. This is becoming hard because we dont have a good plan or know exactly what were doing because Mr. Thompson has different ideas and Mrs. Wilson has different ideas and were just not sure on what to do. Hopefully it will become more understandable in the future so we can finish this unit successfully.

Modern Shakespeare: Criterion A

The Unit Question was: How can we create a video presentation of a Shakespeare play that will appeal to the modern day viewers?

Shakespeare has been considered to be one of the greatest writers to ever live. However, most of his plays were written in old English, making them quite difficult to understand. As we had just finished reading the play, “Much Ado About Nothing” he have a fair understanding of the play, mostly because our teacher, Mr. Thompson, explains the events going on in our language, so we can understand it. What about the not-so-good-at-english people? Can they understand it? Probably not. This is the purpose of this new unit.

We chose Communicators as our learner profile because it is mostly talking, interacting with each other, making it easy to understand, taking confusing text and explaining it to people, and it is basically speaking and talking all the way.

The English A students will be writing the scripts for the class, and we will be assessed for the script in English class, and the acting, editing, all those things in I.T class. I will be using Final Cut Pro for my editing, it is a professional video editing software, exclusively for macs. This will take some learning, but it will do. This is gonna turn out awesome

Criterion E: Evaluation "Cell Phones"

The unit question was “How to inventors come up with their inventions?” and what I concluded was: First, you have to have a big idea. You have to solidify that idea, and commit yourself to it. Second, have the resources, materials, and perseverance to build, test, and tweak. Through trial and error, you make the invention complete. This unit was fun, since I was doing something I was interested in. Technology was always one of my major interests, and I always love to see new and amazing tech coming into reality. The Cell Phone is definitely an important invention, and I personally would not be able to live without it.

Investigation:

The Investigation was easy because we had the sheet that had all the basic information about the cell phone. The sheet had easy and understandable text so I had no trouble.

Plan:

I chose to make a movie, giving basic information about the history of the cell phone, and then a video about the evolution of cell phones since the beginning. I wanted to something fun, and not something boring like an essay. I had fun doing this movie, all the editing and adding music and all that stuff. I was happy I was doing something in a sort of “official” type of way.

Create:

First I needed download an evolution of cell phones video off of YouTube, and that was only available on computers that had RealPlayer support. All the computers in the I.T lab did, so I couldn’t do it at home. Once I downloaded it and mailed it to myself, I had realized that it was in “flv” format, which means it can only be played on flash players. I used Mrs. Wilson’s computer to change the format, but I didn’t work out so well. Once I got home, I used an online video format converter to change it to MPEG-4 format, so I could use it on iMovie. I started to edit the video, but I couldn’t get it the way I wanted, and I realized I had iMovie ’08, and iMovie ’09 had all the new features, but I couldn’t download it because it costs money. So I downloaded it the illegal way. Haha. Then I started to make the movie and it turned out really well. I realized I needed more information than just the evolution of cell phones, but I couldn’t make slides on iMovie. Luckily the other day, I found out there’s a way to take a screenshot of the screen already built into Mac books so I took advantage of that, made slides on PowerPoint, and took pictures of that, and used it as a slideshow of pictures on the video. All I needed to do now was add music, and the final touches. Unfortunately we had moved on to the new unit too quickly and I had no time to make a survey. From the comments I got from the video, people thought my video was good. That was a relief. However, I had forgotten to include the unit question in my video. Hahaha =]

Criterion A: Investigation

The project we are doing is Inventions and Inventors. I got the Cell Phone, which I’m pretty happy about because I already know quite a lot about cell phones already, at least the modern ones. The cell phone started as a radio-telephone, invented by Nikola Tesla in 1892, was only used on the battle field, and was big, and heavy. Then Motorola invented the first commercial in 1983, which cost $4000, and took over $100 million to create and was the first portable cell phone called the DynaTAC 8000X. It weighed 2 pounds, earning the nickname “The Brick”.

The unit question was “How to Inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions?” Well, first I think is to have a great idea. You can brainstorm, or like many inventions, was thought of randomly. Like how the apple fell on Newton’s head and he discovered gravity. Then design the invention, drawing it out, and getting the basic idea of what it’s going to be. Then put the design into action. Start to create the design, and what I think is important, is to keep it a secret so nobody will steal your idea. Create the invention, and then make a copyright or a patent or something like that, so no one will claim to have invented it before you so you will get all the credit. For the cell phone, Nikola Tesla didn’t discover radio waves, but he invented the radio. See what I mean? Discovering is one thing, and inventing is another.

"Motorola DynaTAC 8000x." RETRO BRICK n. pag. Web. 23 Feb 2010. .

"Motorola DynaTAC." Wikipedia- The Free Encyclopedia (2010): n. pag. Web. 23 Feb 2010. .

Q & A on The Invention of Cell Phones

Questions
•Who was the first person to invent the radio-telephone?
•How big was the first commercial cell phone?
•What was the first company to produce commercial cell phones?
•How far could the commercial cell phone call to?
•How much did the first commercial cell phones cost?
•What did it look like?
•What was the first mobile phone most commonly used for?

Answers
•Nikola Tesla was the first man to invent the radio. Gugliegmo Marconi was first credited to have invented the radio, but was proven that he had copied 17 of Tesla’s patents.

•The first company was Motorola, with the DynaTAC 8000x. It weighed 2 pounds, earning the nickname “The Brick”.

•Designed by Rudy Krolopp.

•Took 10 years, and over 100 million dollars to develop.

•It received FCC clearance in 1983

•13 inch x 1.75 inch x 3.5 inch in size

•One hour of talk time and eight hours of standby time

•The original price was 4000$.

•These cell phones were most commonly used in businesses or travel or important things. The brick was expensive, so the average person couldn’t afford such a thing.

•Calling distance is the same even today. You have to have cell sites to call. Each cell phones provider has a network of bases or cell sites, to transmit the call through radio waves.

Our Moon Mirror Evaluation

Our invention was a Complimentary Mirror, which gives you compliments as you feel sad or down. Our design was a solar eclipse, with a concaved moon on the outside and the mirror in the middle. Light coming out of the mirror, on to the moon, showing the process of an eclipse. The concave allows it to be looked at from different angles so it gives the illusion of a real eclipse. It has a frown detector, sort of like a smile detector in cameras, but it detects frowns and sad faces so it gives you a compliment, suitable for anybody. Batteries power the device, and it has 4 speakers on the back, for a full, clear sound.
Our mirror is a complimentary mirror, which means you can put it anywhere, and it detects your unhappy, and it gives a confidence boosting compliment, which can help your overall day. Why is this useful? It can boost your ego for the whole day, if you’re going out, or staying at home. Basically its good anywhere. You can place it in your bathroom, so when you wake up in the morning, it gives you a compliment. Place it in you hallway, so when you com back from a hard day at work, it gives you a compliment, such as “Cheer up! You look stunning.” Or something of that kind.
The Design Cycle
When we investigated to see if something was like this was already invented, and the only thing I found was little kids toys, or pocket compliment toys. We wanted something full-scale, and to be taken as a real, modern product. Disney toys were not what we were trying to do. To start off with our design, we looked at some cool, modern mirrors to find our design. There were puzzle mirrors, fading mirrors, abstract mirrors, and many more very nice mirrors. We chose some of those as our starting designs, but in the end we ended up with our moon design. To plan our product, we said it had to have a cool design, so we though of the moon. The eclipse idea was Mikes, and it was a cool idea. I think our design was pretty unique. We drew it out, and we labeled it, and drew it the basic shape and details. Suddenly we decided to color it purple and the background in a wacky color. When we presented, people had a lot of questions, and we had forgot one thing. The price! We figured with the technology it has, it would be around $100. Will you buy it? =]
